Actor/Comedian Phil LaMarr to Host the 2012 Harvey Awards

Phil is a lifelong comic fan and a very funny man!

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – August 16, 2012 – The Baltimore Comic-Con is happy to announce that actor and comedian Phil LaMarr will host this year’s Harvey Awards banquet and ceremony, taking place on the evening of Saturday, September 8, 2012. The Baltimore Comic-Con, which will be taking place September 8-9 at the Baltimore Convention Center, has been the home of the Harvey Awards since 2006.

Phil LaMarr is best known as a cast member of Fox’s MADtv, a sketch comedy show based on characters and situations from MADmagazine, which was found in 1952 by Editor Harvey Kurtzman (namesake of the Harvey Awards) and Publisher William Gaines. The show first aired in 1995 and ran for 14 seasons, of which LaMarr was a cast member for 5 seasons (1995-2000).

In addition to his comedic acting, LaMarr is also an accomplished voice actor for such renowned shows as Futurama, Kaijudo, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Static Shock, Evil con Carne, Samurai Jack and Justice League Unlimited, as well as recurring roles on King of the Hill, Family Guy, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Young Justice and The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron.

As a lifeling comics reader, LaMarr says: “I’m excited and honored to be a part of the Harvey Awards this year, and I am looking forward to meeting many of the people I spend every Wednesday afternoon with.”

The change in host this year from Harvey Award mainstay Scott Kurtz was due to a family conflict. Kurtz, a friend of both the Baltimore Comic-Con and the Harvey Awards, will return in the future.  “Scott worked really hard to make the show this year, and we all understand and respect that family commitments must take priority,” said Marc Nathan, Baltimore Comic-Con promoter.  “Scott is always welcome here in Baltimore!”
For your chance to see Phil LaMarr host the 2012 Harvey Awards, please visit http://baltimorecomiccon.com/harvey-awards/ where you can purchase your tickets to the banquette, which are now on sale.

Welcome to the New Online Home of the Harvey Awards!

Welcome to the brand new Harveyawards.org website.  This website redesign will allow us to move forward into a new era for the Harvey Awards!

For the first time, comic professionals will be able to vote for the awards directly online.  Check out the “2012 Final Ballot” on the left side of the page for the online ballot.  While paper and email ballots will still be accepted, it is our hope that even more people will vote online. There is still time to submit your ballots ahead of the deadline on Friday, Aug 17, 2012!

Please remember that only comic book professionals – those who write, draw, ink, letter, color, design, and edit comic books and graphic novels – are eligible to vote.

In the future, we will continue to enhance this website to promote the legacy of Harvey Kurtzman and celebrate the Graphic Arts!

Special thanks to Mark Wheatley for his graphic design assistance for the Harvey Awards!

Special thanks to Glenn Hauman for his design and implementation of the new Harveyawards.org!

Best,

Brad Tree

2012 Harvey Award Final Ballot Now Online! – Polls are now closed!

The 2012 Harvey Awards Nominees have been announced with the release of the final ballot, presented by the Executive Committees of the Harvey Awards and the Baltimore Comic-Con. Named in honor of the late Harvey Kurtzman, one of the industry’s most innovative talents, the Harvey Awards recognize outstanding work in comics and sequential art. They will be presented September 8, 2012 in Baltimore, MD, in conjunction with the Baltimore Comic-Con.

Nominations for the Harvey Awards are selected exclusively by creators – those who write, draw, ink, letter, color, design, edit, or are otherwise involved in a creative capacity in the comics field.  They are the only industry awards both nominated and selected by the full body of comic book professionals.

Final ballots are due to the Harvey Awards by Friday, August 17, 2012.  Voting is open to anyone professionally involved in a creative capacity within the comics field. Those without Internet access may request that paper ballots be sent to them via mail or fax by calling the Baltimore Comic-Con (410-526-7410) or e-mailing baltimorecomicccon@yahoo.com.

All ballots must include professional verification information. The Harvey Awards
may be voted on exclusively by Comic-Book creators, those who write, draw, ink,
color, letter, design, edit or are involved in the creative aspect of comics. Fans,
retailers, distributors, and accounting personnel votes will not be counted.

2012 Call For Sponsors

As we move to the final week of voting for the Harvey Awards final ballot, we would like to make a final call for sponsors.

The Harvey Awards are sponsored by individuals and publishers who contribute to the event by purchasing a table or a portion of a table.  These sponsorships pay not only for a portion of dinner, but promotion, ballot printing and award statue costs.  This coming year, we will be working to create a new web-site that will be used for voting.  This will allow us to continue to grow the award to celebrate our nominees, award recipients, and our sponsors.  The Harvey Awards are a non-profit organization, and we rely upon our sponsors to make them possible.

We look forward to hearing from you concerning sponsorship of the Harvey Awards.  You can email us at baltimorecomiccon@yahoo.com.

Thanks – Brad
